If you were stranded on a desert island and you could only bring along one makeup item, and it was lipstick, what would that mean?
Having easy access to your favorite tube of lipstick on an island would definitely provide a few benefits. Using lipstick on a regular basis promotes a healthy and hydrated lip. Lips are made of very thin and delicate skin, and are easy damaged by harsh weather and chemical ingredients. If your lips are dry and chapped, clean off the flaking skin with a warm damp washcloth, and then apply a conditioning lip balm, shea butter, or the contents of a Vitamin E capsule. Lip color applies best to healthy hydrated lips. If your favorite lip color is one of those long lasting formulas, your color will stay for most of the day, but there’s a price to pay. After wearing long lasting formula on your lips for several days in a row, many women get chapped lips. If this happens to you, leave the lip stain alone a few days, and keep a soothing gloss or balm on. For intense help, use your eye serum treatment on them. It’s best to wear lip cosmetics that contain a sunscreen, like titanium oxide and zinc oxide. A lipstick with an SPF rating on the label will help protect your lips from sun damage. If you wear a creamy opaque lipstick, it will provide a partial barrier against the sun’s damaging UVA and UVB rays. We are more sun conscious than our grandparents were. Too many people who spent time in their youth working on the perfect tan have developed precancerous skin lesions. Sun damage is cumulative; it doesn’t disappear in the winter when your color fades. Remember to protect your lips by using cosmetics with an SPF rating of 15+ on the label. The wearing of lipstick is a right of passage for today’s young woman. Pressing one’s lips to even the color is a ritual women perform many times every day. Lipstick is expressive and emotional. When a lip color complements your complexion and your mood, it can improve your whole attitude as it enhances your appearance. In a recent Avon survey, 67% of women responded that lipstick was the one cosmetic they wouldn’t want to live without. Applying lipstick makes a woman look instantly more rested, more polished, and sexier. Having fun with lip color is a playful pleasure. Experiment by mixing colors together, or by applying several layers. Add a touch of gloss as a perfect finish, and you’ll be ready for anything!
