If lip gloss and lip balm is your favorite type of lip cosmetic, here's how to apply it...
A good lip balm will condition and moisturize extremely chapped lips. For the most healing results use a product that does not contain camphor or menthol, as these ingredients are drying to lips. Although most lip balms produce no color, the best ones do include sunscreen. Look for an SPF rating on the label. Research indicates that men are seven times more likely than lipstick wearing women to develop lip cancer. Opaque lip color does provide some protection against the damaging rays of the sun. Lip balms and sheer glosses do an excellent job of moisturizing when applied before lipstick. They can also be used to highlight the mid lip area after your color is applied. Today’s cosmetic market offers an abundance of different colors and finishes to enhance your lips with a matte or satin finish. Here are some tips for the young woman who is somewhat inexperienced applying lip color. If your lips become very chapped, you can clear them of flakes by using a warm wet washcloth to remove peeling skin. When you apply your foundation, include a light coverage of your lips. This will act as a primer and give your color a better surface to adhere to. Apply lip balm or Vaseline to condition your lips, and you’ll find that your lip color glides on smoothly. Lip color can be applied directly from the tube, or by using a cosmetic lip brush. Many women discover they have more control of color placement when they use a lip brush. Begin your application at mid lip, and work toward each side to produce an even edge. If color slips outside the lip area, use a cosmetic wedge with foundation to blot away the mistake. Lip liner pencil can be applied either before or after your lipstick. Select a nude color pencil that’s very near your own natural lip color, or go with a pencil that exactly matches the lipstick you’re wearing. Lip liner is not intended to be seen. Pencil in your lip liner from mid lip to each side, using short connecting strokes. If you have a problem with color seeping outside its intended area, you’ll benefit from using a lip pencil to outline the area where lipstick belongs. This will help contain the color within the penciled boundary. Open your mouth a bit to stretch the skin and provide the best canvas for an even application of lip color. Add a sweep of lip gloss or balm as the final step for a shiny and glamorous result. Half the fun of wearing lipstick is using color to accentuate your look. Undertones in your lipstick should complement your skin and hair coloring. If you end up with a color that just doesn’t look right, put it aside and find a color to combine with it to create a more flattering shade. Experiment by combining different colors, or by layering several on top of each other for a new look. Create a unique shade to match your mood. With some time and experience, applying lipstick will become second nature. Lip color draws attention, and makes every woman feel more sensual and look more glamorous. |
